Segment 1

This mod has been in progress for a while. Since I was on a strictly tight budget I had to get all the parts over time.

The system specs:

750 Watt Power Supply
HP LiteScribe 20x DVD +/- RW
EVGA 680i sli motherboard
Q6600 Processor
Zalman CNPS 9700 NT Ultra Quiet Cooler
8GB DDR2 PC6400 Ram
4 ½ TB SATA II Hard Drive Space
EVGA nVidia GeForce GTX 260 (896 MB DDR3) Core 216
22” Wide Acer LCD monitor
Microsoft Wireless Keyboard and Mouse
Belkin Wireless Internet G+ PCI slot card.
4 Fan Speed Controller

For this particular case mod I’m using an ‘Inwin A500’. It’s the same case Bill Owen used for his ‘Psychosis’ Mod. Click Here to see the worklog.

Time to break it down:

After the Breakdown, prep for cutting:

After all the cutting, the front part of the chassis got a square cut, the bottom of the chassis had two 120mm fan holes, and since the side panel and top panel were all together, I just cut out all the sides.

For the side panel, I ended up just doing something off the top of my head:

Segment 3

I sent the main part of the chassis to get powder coated (candy-apple red with the red sparkle additive).

The remaining parts of the chassis I sent to be chrome plated and shined along with the motherboard tray.

I ended up widening the square area of to the left so the power supply is visible.

I painted the outside panels myself using Dupli-Color Cherry Red. It looks dark red like candy apple/blood red.

To give the mod some uniformity I added the same chassis side panel hole design to the front panel.

Segment 4

The fan grills I originally designed for the sub-zero mod turned out to be more perfect for this mod. It’s a picture of a beast. It all started with a drawing, then I re-did it in adobe illustrator.

I then sent the design to the laser cutter.

After I got them back from laser cutting, I sent them to be chrome plated as well:

That’s some BLING for you…

I then sent the same image to an acrylic laser cutter to make my side window of transparent black/smoke acrylic. I only had one side created.

For the other side and the top, I just stopped by Lowe’s and grabbed some acrylic.

Segment 5

The original idea I had was to use the acrylic to fill in the cuts on the outside panels, mount 120mm fan grills on the top with fan grills, and shine the paint etc. Instead, I decided to go opposite of the traditional and mount the acrylic directly to the chassis, mount the fan grills to the inside and outside bottom of the case, mount the fans to the bottom of the case, and mount the power button to the front of the chassis.

The original idea was to mount both fans to the bottom of the chassis and mount the fangrills on the inside bottom of the case.

I decided to go with on fan on the inside bottom and one on the outside bottom. This allowed the feet to have enough room away from the fan grills.

Since I already tested the parts for compatibility and operation, I just installed them.
